Early Menopause Health Risks

Women who go through early menopause have a substantially higher risk for heart attacks and strokes, according to a new study from Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. The study found that the risk doubled if menopause occurred before age 46. What sets this study apart is that researchers found increased risk regardless of ethnicity, or whether early menopause was natural or due to hysterectomy with removal of ovaries.

ObamaCare: Victory for Women’s Health

An article in The Female Patient, a peer reviewed medical journal of great renown, in September, 2012 expresses the author-s and my view of the Supreme Court ruling this year on the Affordable Health Care Act, which has become known as Obamacare. It is, in our and many other physicians- opinions, a major victory for women-s health.

You Throw Like a Girl!

As much as the expression grates, girls in general do throw like girls. Janet Hyde, a professor of psychology at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, has studied the gender gap across a broad spectrum of skills. After looking at 46 meta-analyses she found what she defined as a “very large” difference in only two skills: throwing velocity and throwing distance. It starts at age 4 and is three times the difference of any other motor task. It just gets bigger from then on. By age 18, nearly every boy throws better than the best girl.
